Walking up Museum hill from the Uhuru Highway - Waiyaki Rd roundabout, you can see the monstrosity that is the new super highway. Although still under construction, you can see the glory that will be beheld by all who'll see it. But still, right next to it is the sewage infested river that carries the name of this great city. The stench is overwhelming, it is a wonder that anyone stays at Hotel Boulevard at all. But going up the hill, the botanic garden seems to flourish right before your eyes, a little oasis in the concrete jungle.
The entrance of the museum is unmanned, and pedestrians can just stroll in, motorists however don't share the same luck. Inside a humongous sculpture of a dinosaur, maybe brontosaurus, looms overhead (side note: this reminds me of a conversation I had with a friend of mine and she asked if I was going to the museum with the dinosaur, and I took this (as any logical person would) as meaning a fossil skeleton, kumbe that's what she meant….sad). Clear directions are given to the highlights of the compound (though why anyone would go to see plants is beyond me), and the main museum building was first choice.
Inside, reasonably priced tickets are sold for access to the galleries and the snake... http://musings-cessk.blogspot.com/2011/02/nairobi-national-museum.html

I went to Safari Walk recently because a friend of mine from the US (noticed how nowadays knowing someone from the US is no longer a reason to boast; oh how we've grown!) was in Nairobi and wanted to see the sights.
Side note; there is absolutely nothing to see in Nairobi. Everything is on one road (Langata Rd) and there is very little variety. Animals, animals, animals. At least in Mombasa there's the beach, there are cultural villages, mad activities…there's something. And to break the monotony in Nairobi, you go to Maasai market to be swindled.
Anyway, since I'm most probably the only person she knew in Nairobi, she called and we went. I must admit, I had been to Safari Walk before with a huge number of people like a year before, but I hadn't noticed that's where the animal orphanage is too. That's the next plot *fingers crossed*.
So we went to the ticket buying area and presented ourselves. So obviously she's a foreigner, so tourist prices apply to her. Thank goodness I had the presence of mind to carry my ID when leaving the house otherwise I too would have been charged ridiculous prices. Let me explain why I dwell on the whole prices thing. For citizens, its 150, for residents its 350 (but considering the trouble that they have to go through to get residency shouldn't we just give them this one? …guess the answer is no) and for foreigners...yes ,you've guessed it $20!! Now convert that into shillings…its ok, I'll give you a moment…if you came to Kshs. 1,600 you are correct (give or take). Oh, and don't presume.... http://musings-cessk.blogspot.com/2011/02/safari-walk.html

Blanco's Lounge and Grill is a trendy African fusion cuisine restaurant which avails the perfect blend of best in Kenyan hospitality, excellent wine, food, entertainment and African inspired decor.

The food is creatively presented and simply delicious while the service is friendly and attentive.

AnneE được nhận xét Phoenician Lebanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar khoảng 20 vài tháng trước đây

The combination of Lebanese and Japanese may appear a bit odd, with the occasional European type of dish thrown in (like pizza), but it somehow works quite well. The Lebanese food is pricy, but always good quality (Lebanese owner). The outdoor seating is definitely the most appealing. Booking in the weekend is recommended for a good table.

The ambience is pleasant. The biggest problem is the food. Have tried the steaks twice and they are just not tender. The deserts are rather dull. Service is a plus though. If you're in Gigiri and you want to sit in a garden type of setting, it is worth a try.

Thanks to Lang Monolith - love you're art

I've been here a few times to buy anything from supplements to diabetic chocolate. More often than not thought I have come here and not found what I am looking for. They have a particular low carb liquorice one week, but not the next. But maybe I am too hard on this place. After all, it seems to be one of the more reliable health shops.

OK, it mights seem odd that I give four stars to a forest that it is highly recommended NOT to enter. The thing is though, if you do run with some security in this forest, it is such a wonderful place. The British Army organizes runs on Thursdays at 17:15ish by the Shell/BP clubhouse in a 9 km circuit. Rangers are placed in several locations on the trail. I've done it three times now, and I feel safe. Ahh. Imagine what a place this could be if people could walk and run freely every day.

Went here with a group visiting Nairobi. While the atmosphere is not as great as Carnivore, I still prefer it for the food. And in a way, Carnivore being as touristy as it is, this restaurant feels more authentic for guests. The buffet is quite excellent. The meats are varied. Loved the ribs and the beef filet.

I like this restaurant. It is down to earth - maybe a bit pricey, but the food is consistently good. Service is always quick and attentive. I usually go for Indian, but I have friends who are quite happy with the Western dishes. Booking could be advisable Friday or Saturday night if arriving late, but apart from these times it is easy to get a table.

This place surprised me with quite decent food. And the desserts are like no other in Nairobi - love the cakes!

The location feels like it is a bit in a dumb - the outdoor "basement" of the Muthaiga mini market, but it kind of works.

Always a pleasant encounter. A small museum and gallery, perfect for a Saturday outing with lunch in the garden cafe.

Not all the exhibitions are hits, but hey, this is the best art space as far as I know.

Recommended!

I like the fact that it opens early - it saved me once on the way to Naivasha an early Saturday when all other pharmacies were closed.

The girl behind the counter is always all smiles. It is slightly more expensive than Belladonna at Village Market for a lot of items, but I've actually got a discount when I have brought up this fact.

There is also an Safaricom Mpesa facility inside which is packed over lunch hours.

I think this is the best bakery in Nairobi, though Art Cafe in Westgate is pretty close. With the French owners always around, it feels a tiny bit like France.

It would be even better if they could expand with a deli. They can prepare baguettes with ham etc. for you, but they do not sell diary and meat products separately.

What I like about this place is actually the interior. Not because it is cutting edge, modern or very stylish in any way. But because it has a kind 1970s vintage feel to it, with rather interesting curio on display.

The food is okay, but nothing out of the ordinary. I've been here with Japanese friends, and they confirm that quite a few items would never be served in Japan, not even close.

A pleasant place in the weekend, and even more so during the week. I brought my laptop on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was peaceful and relaxing. Staff are friendly, the carrot cake is good and so if the coffee. Only wish they had fresh tea as an alternative to the teabags.

AnneE được nhận xét Tamambo Tapas Bar khoảng 28 vài tháng trước đây

I've been to a couple of concerts during weekends. Nice enough for a glass of wine or a cold Tusker. I am not convinced about the food though. I shared some tapas with friends once - don't even remember what I had, but I remember not being fully satisfied.

The ambiance is pretty nice for a mall bar/restaurant. The outside patio is done rather well and even a bit romantic in the evening. The crowd is very UN/embassy, at least the weekends I've been there. If you live and work in the area like me, it can be a bit much to bump into the Runda, Gigiri, Kitisuru, Spring Valley crowd in weekends too.

One last thing: I can actually recommend Tamambo for early morning breakfast. If you have to do some errands in the morning and want a coffee and a croissant first, this is a decent and peaceful alternative to the food court.

antonyx được nhận xét Furusato khoảng 28 vài tháng trước đây

Overall a good choice if you want to spend some money on pretty good meal.

Pros:
- Big portions.
- Set menus okay value.
- Tepanyaki tables perfect for groups (they cook the food on the table in front of you and serve straight on to your plate).

Cons:
- The restaurant is so spacious that it reminds me of a canteen. Not exactly a place for intimacy.
- While the food is good, it does have a Kenyan twist, or is it Korean/Kenyan?

It might be an idea to book if you're after a Tepanyaki table a Saturday night, but apart from that Furusato has so much space now that booking is rarely necessary.

I was about to "give up" this park, meaning that I'd rather go to Naivasha or Nakuru for daytrip safari when I have guests. But then, being short of time one Saturday, I took a visitor last weekend.

Ah - I did not regret it a second. We saw four lions pretty close, and baby cheetah! And of course the usual giraffes, buffalos, gazelles, impalas and so on. The rains over Christmas have clearly done wonders. The park was alive!

AnneE được nhận xét Jay Cab Services khoảng 28 vài tháng trước đây

Everything is relative, that is why I give Jay cab a quite high rating. I started out with Jim cab, and switched. Not that I take cabs so often when I have a car, but for going to the airport and to rescue when the car is in the garage they come in handy. I tied Eco Cab for a while, but then had a few bad experiences where they did not show up at all, so I was back to Jay Cab. The cars are not all that, but 98% of the drivers are nice quys. I've never come across any very annoying driver (like I did with Eco Cab). I've never had any pressure for tipping. Overall, this is as good as it gets around Gigiri.

Thanks to Lang Monolith - love you're art

I usually find what I am looking for in this pharmacy. Saturdays is a bit of a pain with the hordes coming in to Village Market, but other days the service is mostly quick. Another surprise - the Village Market pharmacy is very competitively priced. Nicorette for example (a friend of mine is an overconsumer) has a slightly lower price at Belladonna than the Warwick, Westgate and Sarit pharmacies - as well as a few random ones in town. Sometimes they ask for prescription for what needs a prescription (couldn't get a single Valium for a long haul flight without prescription), other times you'll get what you want (like Retin-A which I think requires prescription).
