After some hassle I got a single room in this hotel for US$ 175. Not cheap - but I had seen the common area on previous visits (go here often) and wanted to try it for some nights. I still think the overall interior and feel of the hotel is superior in Nairobi. Another plus: breakfast - a wide range of items and high quality. Very fresh. So to the disappointments: no bathtub in the room. It is actually quite cold in Nairobi in the evenings, and for US$ 175 one would expect a tub in the room. This comes on top of the fact that the pool is not heated. This was another disappointment. The hotel boasts a solar heated pool....just that the solar heating in not working. I asked in the morning when it would work. I was told I would be updated in the afternoon. Of course I heard nothing. Oh - I did not mention a plumbing problem in the bathroom which took some time to fix... The understanding that I wanted to have a functioning WC was not fully there. You'd expect a 5* hotel to understand that the facilities should be working. Overall, some way to go before the services match the interior design.
